MT-1 Mosaic Mountain bike
Your Old Bike is Dead – Long Live Your New Bike
It’s pretty upsetting when you have to say goodbye to your bike. It’s been your buddy on long, hard slogs through driving rain. It’s shared spectacular views with you on bright, spring days. It’s carried you, gasping for a cold one at the next pub, when the sun’s been beating down on your back.
And then one day it goes and dies on you. Charming.
Our client had a Niner that got so damaged he had to replace it. Because he was so gutted, he really wanted his next bike to feel as similar as possible, while also having some of the novelty of being a shiny new machine (because who doesn’t love that feeling too?).
So, I stroked my beard for a bit and decided that some of his old bike could be recycled – if you’ll excuse the pun.
The result was this Mosaic MT-1 mountain bike: a single speed machine perfect for what this customer needed. We managed to donor some parts from the old Niner and copy the geometry of it (in titanium so it could last longer).
And in the end, we had a bike that was like the beloved old bike, but better! The client thought so too.

the build
With the accolade of Best Mountain Bike at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2019, you have a strong clue that picking this for your next riding adventure is one of the better choices you’ll make in life.
Mosaic is a brand we feel really close to, not just because we have a great relationship with the guys at this USA brand, but also because they make damned good bikes; we just return to them again and again.
Made from almost indestructible titanium, this isn’t a delicate wall flower. You want to pound dirt tracks and rocky paths? This one’s for you.
Enve bar stem and seat post were selected because this premium brand offers stiffness and vibration damping that a good mountain bike – and mountain cyclist –needs.
I used Chris King hubs for their obvious quality and amazing durability, not to mention amazing engagement and increased power for the rider.
More stiffness and support is provided here by the Cane Creek titanium crank; reliable efficiency from the KMC chain; comfort from the Fabric saddle; and the all-important control from the Hope brakes.
the bike fit
Every great bespoke bike build receives a Bike Tailor bike fit (try saying that after a couple of pints). So that means that at every stage of the build, we’re using the rider’s vital statistics to create their optimum cycling position.
Fewer injuries and more opportunities for an awesome ride: it’s in the bag. See more about The Bike Tailor fitting service here!
